The Department of Health recently confirmed Birmingham City Council is to receive funds from its Warm Homes, Healthy People initiative.

Birmingham’s allocation of £600,000 will, in summary, deliver actions to help prevent seasonal deaths and casualties amongst the most vulnerable living in cold housing.

Actions will be led by the City Housing and Health & Wellbeing Partnerships, and we are very keen to hear from voluntary and community partners if you are able to make referrals of vulnerable residents.

The Third Sector Assembly Annual Conference 2011 will feature presentations focussing on funding from Birmingham Community Foundation (philanthropic giving) and the Big Lottery Fund (Current and prospective funding opportunities and priorities) as well as addressing issues around governance in today’s changing climate in a presentation from BVSC’s Director of Policy and Programmes, Tracey O’Brien.

The Third Sector Assembly Champions have drafted a response to the recent government consultation on a new mandatory ground for possession in cases of anti-social behaviour and criminality.

The consultation has also been extended following the disturbances, to include extension of the discretionary ground for social tenants if they or their family have been convicted of a criminal offence beyond the vicinity of their neighbourhood.

On 8 April 2011, voluntary sector leaders and public sector commissioners within Children and Young People met to continue discussions around action and collaboration in terms of minimising the impact of the cuts on beneficiaries and to agree a consistent appropach to communications with the voluntary and community sector.
