Background: The Future Jobs Fund is a fund of around £1 billion nationally which aims to support the creation of innovative jobs for long-term unemployed young people and others who face significant disadvantage in the labour market. It aims to create 150,000 jobs across the UK. More details on the Fund available at www.dwp.gov.uk/futurejobsfund

Be Birmingham's bid for funding to help 2000 of the city's young unemployed people back into work has won approval from central government.

The aim of Birmingham's Future Jobs Fund programme is to provide 1000 new placements for 18 to 24 year-olds who have been claiming benefits for a year or more. A further 1000 placements will be created for long-term benefit claimants over 25 in unemployment hotspots across Birmingham. The training will be in the public, voluntary and community and private sectors in skills areas relevant to the local economy.

We will be holding two sessions on this Hot Topic:

12.00 - 13.00: For organisations that are currently involved with the Future Jobs Fund: We want to hear about your developments and the progress you are making. Have there been any issues? Is there anything you would like to share with other organisations currently involved?

13.00-14.00: For organisations that are not currently involved: We want to find out how much you know about Future Jobs Fund, whether your organisation would be in a position to support future jobs and explore any problems or advantages for organisations that this might present.

Rachel Ginnelly, Senior Policy Officer at Be Birmingham will provide an update at both sessions, detailing the progress so far and providing information on how your organisation can get involved with the programme.

There are limited places available and only one place per organisation.
