Health & Social Care

The Health and Social Care network was formed to:

  • Adopt an approach to policy development within Health and Social Care that locates the Third Sector proactively as an agenda setter
  • Create space for third sector organisations and networks operating within Health and Social Care to progress their priorities. We organise formal meetings, informal discussion groups, group emails and online discussion forums
  • Make use of a full range of inclusive and interactive communications channels. We produce a regular Health and Social Care e-bulletin
  • Build upon third sector activity and established good practice within Health and Social Care. We produce policy briefings and offer reference to research publications

The Health & Social Care Network met on Wednesday 29th June to discuss forthcoming changes to the health service and opportunities for the sector.  You can download the full agenda as well as the speakers presentations below.

New framework contract for home care and care homes with/without nursing

The new framework contract comes at a time when Adults and Communities is transforming the way it delivers services to citizens. Our Business Transformation programme aims to improve social care services for adults in Birmingham, so that people have more choice and control over those services and can stay more independent for longer, in a way that suits them. Our proposed changes comply with the new CQC regulatory framework.

This is a period of change for citizens, service providers and the Council, and so we are holding a number of events to inform the market place about the new commissioning model, future ways of working and ultimately, to launch the new framework contract.

You should be aware that Adults and Communities’ recently completed a period of consultation on the ‘Vision for Adults Social Care’ in Birmingham. The consultation closed on 2nd March 2011 and your comments and suggestions were considered and helped to shape the final recommendations, which were agreed by Cabinet on 14th March 2011. We would like to thank you for your patience during this time.

Wednesday 29th September 2010 - Health White Paper Event

The network met to agree a response to the Government's NHS White Paper: Liberating the NHS.

The response was fed back to the Department of Health for consideration.

Thursday 29th July 2010

Gateway Family Services: host of Birmingham LINk, attended the meeting to discuss how the Assembly can work with the LINk. Attendees also discussed the impact of the funding cuts on organisations and beneficiaries.

Monday 10th May 2010: Hot Topic - Total Place

Each of the Assembly's thematic networks met in May to explore how the voluntary and community sector can engage and support Birmingham's Total Place Priorities.

Monday 22nd February 2010: Personalisation Event

The Network hosted a Personalisation event to inform organisations about the Personalisation agenda and to identify potential opportunities for voluntary and community organisations.

Monday 30th November 2009

Heart of Birmingham tPCT and Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust attended the meeting to gather feedback from organisations on the proposed changes to maternity services in West Birmingham and Sandwell.

The manager of Birmingham City Councils Adults and Communities Transformation Programme attended the meeting to discuss the council's progress with the Personalisation agenda.

The Health and Social Care Network met to discuss Birmingham's Local Involvement Network (LINk). Professor Marcus Longley from the University of Glamorgan attended the event to gather feedback from organisations on how the LINk can be as effective as possible.
