About the Assembly

The Third Sector Assembly is a long-term association of third sector networks. It is brought together by BVSC to improve communication across the sector, to grow its ability to influence and to improve relationships with the public sector.

At the launches of the Assembly in July 2007, the sector responded loudly and clearly that an Assembly was needed in Birmingham. In order to succeed, people agreed that the Assembly should be:

  • properly sector driven
  • inclusive to smaller organisations
  • offering something different
  • focusing on the needs of service users
  • able to influence commissioning to improve service delivery.

Aims

The Third Sector Assembly aims to provide in the city:

  • an independent and resonant voice for the Third Sector
  • a long-term association of existing and future networks from the Third Sector.

It will do this by:

  • providing a forum to challenge and champion solutions
  • supporting third sector organisations to contribute to Birmingham's Sustainable Community strategy and the Local Area Agreement
  • Bringing together third sector networks as a means of:
    - Increasing their influence with Be Birmingham and its partners
    - Improving their relationship with Be Birmingham and its partners
